To Diabetes —
7 years, 9 months, and 13 days — that’s how long we’ve been on this journey together. On the day I was diagnosed, my family knew that life as we previously knew it was over… and that the days and future we had imagined would now look a lot different.
And while this life certainly looks different than what any of us expected, I can confidently say that I’m proud of how far we’ve come… together.
Are our days always easy? No. Are you my favorite thing to deal with? Definitely not. Do I wish you weren’t a constant part of my life? Absolutely.
But do you want to know what has made living with you a little easier? My caregivers. My community. The tools, technology, and medication that have grown and advanced over the years — all of which help me navigate you with more confidence and a lot more hope.
So listen — for this National Diabetes Awareness Month, I need you to know something. I’m not alone. I have a support system of people who love me, who want the best for my health, and who help me realize that despite living with diabetes, I am capable, I am supported, and I am still shining.
With strength and hope for the future, Brooklyn
