Diabetes,

I met you when I was only 8 years old. I remember feeling scared and confused as I suddenly had to learn new numbers, routines, and responsibilities. I had no idea how much my life would change.

Growing up with you hasn’t always been easy. You’ve been there through hockey practices, games, long days, and moments when I just wanted to be a kid. You’ve taught me to be patient, adaptable, and to keep going even when things get frustrating.

Hockey has always been a big part of my life. Being a goalie has taught me to handle pressure, bounce back from mistakes, and trust myself. Managing diabetes adds challenges, but it hasn’t taken away my love for the game or my dreams.

I’m thankful for my family, friends, and teammates who support me through the ups and downs. Being part of Dexcom U has also connected me with a community that understands my journey and allows me to share my story with others.

If I could talk to my eight-year-old self, I’d tell her she’s going to be okay. She’ll play college hockey, meet incredible people, and accomplish things she never imagined.

Diabetes, you are part of my story, but you are not my whole story. I didn’t choose you, but I get to choose how I keep moving forward. I hope sharing my story reminds others that they aren’t alone and that they can still chase their dreams.

Back to the letters

A letter to diabetes.

If you could say anything to diabetes, what would you say?

A Letter to Diabetes creates a space for people around the world to put into words how they feel about their diabetes journey.

This is about everything you’ve wanted to say, but haven’t found the words.

A letter to diabetes

Throughout November, we’re inviting you to share your letter to diabetes. Whether you live with diabetes, are a caregiver, a healthcare professional, or simply love someone with diabetes, we want to hear your story.

Share it any way that feels authentic to you, through photos, audio, video, or a handwritten letter.

Stories will be reviewed before posting, and while we value every submission, not all stories will be published.
