John, United States

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I questioned if I would still be able to do everything I loved. I didn’t know if I could still play sports or stay as active as I wanted to be. Over time, I learned that I could still do all those things and that diabetes did not have to hold me back.

One of the things I am most proud of is that I am still playing the sports I love and staying active every day without complications. My parents have been my biggest support system throughout this journey because they have always been there for me.

Diabetes has taught me how to take care of myself and helped me grow in ways I never expected. Strength, to me, means learning from the highs and lows, overcoming challenges, and moving forward smarter and stronger.

Looking back, I am proud of how far I have come. Diabetes is part of my life, but it does not define me or stop me from chasing my goals. It has helped shape who I am today, and I plan to keep pushing myself in everything I do.

Back to the letters

A letter to diabetes.

If you could say anything to diabetes, what would you say?

A Letter to Diabetes creates a space for people around the world to put into words how they feel about their diabetes journey.

This is about everything you’ve wanted to say, but haven’t found the words.

A letter to diabetes

Throughout November, we’re inviting you to share your letter to diabetes. Whether you live with diabetes, are a caregiver, a healthcare professional, or simply love someone with diabetes, we want to hear your story.

Share it any way that feels authentic to you, through photos, audio, video, or a handwritten letter.

Stories will be reviewed before posting, and while we value every submission, not all stories will be published.
